Reportedly, news has surfaced that the 7-foot-3 center has made a significant financial request for his participation in the global tournament, as revealed by a source familiar with the situation.
Sources at FastBreak have been informed that the camp representing Kai Sotto has formally asked for a contract worth $400,000 in order for him to compete in the forthcoming international event. Although it remains uncertain whether the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has agreed to these terms, the source commented that this is the amount they are seeking.
Taking into account the present exchange rate of ₱56.00, the monetary figure that Sotto is requesting would translate to a substantial sum of ₱22,400,000 in Philippine currency. Having previously participated in the 2023 NBA Summer League with the Orlando Magic, Kai Sotto made a brief appearance during Gilas' match against the Dominican Republic, although his playing time was under two minutes. Within that short span, he accumulated two fouls but did not manage to score any points. In the encounter against Angola, the Filipino center was given more time on the court, yet he only contributed eight points to the scoreboard as the team suffered a defeat with a final score of 80-70 on Sunday.
