Valve has Unexpectedly Announced Counter-Strike 2 with a Summer 2023 Release Date - Get Ready for an Overhaul on Every System, Map and Model! Long-time fans of the Counter-Strike franchise have been speculating about an upgrade to CS:GO for weeks, and now it's official. In a surprise post on Twitter, Valve revealed that it is beginning a limited test of Counter-Strike 2 today. According to the company, it will be "the largest technical leap forward in Counter-Strike's history" and they are promising years of updates and new features following the game's full release.
Players can expect an improved version of all their favorite maps, plus new ones too. Everything has been upgraded with Source 2 engine technology and the game offers revamped smoke grenades, "sub-tick updates" to ensure accuracy in movement and shots, better visuals and sounds and UI changes. Even experienced players' skills should transfer over easily as Valve plans to keep most aspects familiar while highly improving them. The full launch is scheduled for summer 2023 and people can look forward to enjoying CS2 free of charge. A notification will arrive in the main menu if you're one of the lucky players selected (based on recent playtime on official servers, trust factor or steam account ranking). You'll be able to stream your experience or post videos online so those who aren't chosen can still get a glimpse at what's coming next for Counter Strike. All items collected from CS:GO will carry over into CS2 as well as updated stock weapons with high resolution models. Of course this comes at a price - anyone banned from playing CS:GO won't be able to join in any games on Valve servers for CS2 either. It appears that after decades since its first release, Counter Strike is ready for its biggest transformation yet!
