So let's talk about grading human hair...

The Origination of The Grading System

The hair grading system was created by Chinese hair vendors to determine the quality of hair. Up until 2010-2011, grade 3A was the preferred grade of human hair. Everyone said it was amazing!

From years 2012-2018 we went from 4A to 10A, and at that time 10A was considered the new top grade. In 2019-2020 we got 11A and 12A to hit the market.

Every year, hair vendors have added an additional "A" to their hair to stay competitive. But if we're honest, it's just a clever marketing tactic the Asians came up with to inflate the market and charge more for the same grades of hair.

​Why Grading Systems are used and Their Importance

Not everyone is looking for expensive or the highest quality of hair. So with a grading system, clients can easily see a distinction between qualities and decide which one is the most suitable for their market. But the elephant in the room is, are 12A hair extensions really better than 10A hair extensions? It's really a tough call because technically you could call your hair any "grade" you want. As there is no regulating body that controls what can be considered 3A, 4A, 5A, etc. Just keep in mind, one company's version of 7A hair may not be the same as another.

So if every company can define its own hair grading system, we should be informed with other ways we can be sure of the hair quality.

​​Grades 5A, 6A, 7A, 8A, 10A, 12A. What Is The Difference? 

If one company has higher quality hair extensions like 12A, 10A, 8A, 6A, 5A hair grades, you can relatively say the 12A extension is the best hair. In general, that's without question.


What's the difference amongst these hair grades?

In fact, the biggest difference is the ratio of relatively shorter hairs in a bundle, as well as the youth-fullness of it. What age woman the hair is sourced from and the smaller the percentage of short hairs determines the higher grades. When comparing two companies with the same hair grade, we should look for other high quality variables to determine which is better such as:

• 100% HUMAN HAIR. It is guaranteed NOT to be mixed hair (animal hair, synthetics, etc.)  
• WEIGHT. The standard weight of sew-in hair bundle is 100 grams or about 3.5 oz.
• WEFTS. Single stitch or double stitch? Double stitch wefts should reduce shedding.  
• REMY OR NON-REMY. Remy hair with the cuticles facing the same direction should reduce the chances of tangling.  
• CHEMICAL TREATMENT. You certainly don't want hair extension that is chemically treated.  
• SINGLE DONOR OR MULTIPLE. Is it necessary? According to your own needs.  
• SINGLE OR DOUBLE DRAWN. If you expect to get a bundle of human hair that includes the long hairs all the way to the tips, the double drawn Hair is a better choice.  
• STYLING. Human Hair extensions generally should not have an issue styling.
