Cristiano Ronaldo made history yet again as he scored twice in Portugal's Euro 2024 qualifying opener, celebrating his world-record 197th men’s international appearance. He became the first man to achieve a record 120 international goals and cemented his status as one of the greatest football players of all time. The 38-year-old had been frustrated in front of goal during the first period, but eventually added to his goals tally with a second-half penalty before finding the top corner with a free-kick. With this achievement, Ronaldo has set numerous individual records for both club and country, including most Champions League goals (140), most Champions League appearances (183), and most international goals in competitive fixtures (100). He became the first player to score 800 top-level career goals back in November, and is also the only player to have achieved 10 hat-tricks in men's international football. His illustrious career has seen him win seven domestic top-flight titles, 11 other major domestic trophies, five Champions Leagues, four Club World Cups and one European Championship - not to mention two Best Fifa Men's Player awards. There were question marks over Ronaldo's future with Portugal after their elimination by Morocco at the quarter-final stage of last year's World Cup. But captain Ronaldo justified his selection under new manager Roberto Martinez with yet another milestone. His latest records continue to illustrate why he goes down in history as one of the game’s greatest players ever.
