Ahmed Best Discusses His Reluctance to Return to Star Wars in "The Mandalorian"

   Ahmed Best, who played the controversial character Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, recently appeared in "The Mandalorian" as the voice and motion-capture performer for the character of Jedi Master Depa Billaba.
​   Despite his return to the beloved franchise, Best has spoken openly about his reluctance to re-enter the Star Wars universe.

   In an interview with IndieWire, Best discussed the challenges and complexities of dealing with the fallout from his portrayal of Jar Jar Binks.
​   The character faced backlash from fans and critics alike, with some accusing him of being racist and others simply finding him annoying.

   Best explained that the experience of playing Jar Jar Binks was difficult and painful, and that he didn't want to revisit those negative feelings by returning to the franchise.
​   However, he ultimately decided to take on the role of Jedi Master Depa Billaba in "The Mandalorian" because the character was so different from Jar Jar and gave him an opportunity to explore a new side of himself as a performer.
